International perspective on our presidential election

leave a comment »

I had to pass along this gem from Dvorak Uncensored. This was emailed to John from a reader who got it from her mother in Denmark.

We in Denmark cannot figure out why you are even bothering to hold an election in the US.

On one side, you have a bitch who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer, running against a lawyer who is married to a bitch who is a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a war hero married to a good looking woman with big tits who owns a beer distributorship.

Is there really a contest here?

The Democrats never cease to amaze me

leave a comment »

The Democratic Party has done it again – they have managed to demonstrate more dysfunction than the competition.

In 2000, they managed to nominate the only goofball that could win the popular vote and lose the election. In 2004, they found the one jerk who could manage a loss to Dubya.

And in 2008, they will nominate an extremely liberal orator who will lose to John McCain.

A recent poll by The Associated Press says that Clinton has a better chance at beating McCain than Obama, despite the fact that the New York senator is statistically eliminated from competition.

Obama is the one jerk who can lose to a Republican in ’08 – and a Republican conservatives don’t even really like, at that.

It is past time to scrap this party and start over. Somehow, the Democrats have achieved the Washington dream-scenario – they pander to every special-interest group at once – and it has created a lack of true leadership at the helm.

With as low an approval rating as the Bush White House has garnered, the Incredible Hulk or even Jason Calacanis would be a slam dunk against any competition.

Dems, you had your chance to turn back to the Clinton family for help and you chose a different path.

Now, it’ll be four more years of McSame.

ABC was the big loser in last night’s debate according to Washington Post columnist

with 3 comments

As it turns out, many folks agreed with my blog entry following the debate last night. In it, I slammed ABC News for putting on what I saw as a biased train wreck of a debate with little substance.

I also called for the Democratic party to prevent candidates from participating in ABC News debates in future election cycles.

In a column today for the Washington Post, Tom Shales echoed many of the same sentiments.

We have to hold our media accountable. ABC News owes the public an apology for what went on last night.

ABC News debate was worst yet

with one comment

ABC News, I once trusted you. You were my choice among the major networks. I enjoyed your on-air staff and held many of your journalists in high regard. When I started j-school, I said I wanted to go work for you some day.

But not any longer.

Tonight’s democratic debate, moderated by Charles Gibson and George Stephagreatgoogliemoogalienopoulos, was perhaps the worst debate in modern history.

Let’s just start with the fact that one of the moderators, Mr. Stephanopoulos, had a bias right out of the gate. Many of you will remember the current Washington bureau chief for ABC News as the charismatic senior adviser to Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign

That is a conflict of interest any way you slice it.

The content of the debate was often superficial – no real issues, just fabricated ones, like the Rev. Wright controversy and Obama’s choice of lapel pin. I’ve long been a supporter of Senator Clinton, but I’ll be the first to admit these are the “issues” where she is strongest.

As for the performance of the candidates, Hillary pwned Obama, but not nearly as bad as the moderators did. It felt like they were out to prove that there isn’t a media bias toward the Illinois senator.

I urge the Democratic Party to stop the candidates from participating in any future debates on ABC News until the network can find a true journalist to moderate.

The Obamafication of Mr. Nelson

leave a comment »

Dear Mr. Obama,

I’m writing you today to let you know that I am switching my alliance in the presidential race to you.

It’s true, senator – I’ve been a die-hard supporter of Mrs. Clinton since day one.  But because she no longer has a chance at winning the nomination, I’m getting all Obamafied.

Please don’t let this go to your head.  I’m still not sold on you.  You have no executive experience and despite the fact that I prefer your health care plan to Senator Clinton’s, you still sport a record that is a little more liberal than I’d like.

Yes, sir, you opposed the Iraq war from the start, but that was when you were a nothing.  You had no significance on the national stage.  Had you been in your current position when the authorization for war came up for a vote, I’m not convinced you would have voted no.

You are a good candidate.  The fact that I think Senator Clinton was the better candidate no longer matters, as you are our man.  We have to unite as Democrats to take back the White House and defeat Mr. McCain.

I urge my fellow Clintonites to join me in my transition to an Obama-Mama.  It’ll take a while for me to get used to your annoyingly feverish fan club, but consider me a dues-paid member.

Best wishes,

Matthew Nelson
