Your Swedish Chef moment of ze day

leave a comment »

I was getting really frustrated working on a column – I’m having major writer’s block today. And from scanning Twitter, it looks like many of my friends are having a similarly bad “hump day.”

This’ll cheer you right up – it did me. Without further ado, your Swedish Chef moment of ze day. Bork Bork Bork!

A proposed advertising model for Twitter

leave a comment »

As many of you know, Twitter is a shining example of the Web 2.0 business model – build a user base first, find a way to monetize the company second. Twitter has been around for two years now and has made no money.

Some have speculated lately that they are exploring their options for adding advertising to the popular social network. A long server outage last night only continued to fuel speculation.

Here is my proposal for an advertising model that builds brand loyalty and shouldn’t upset Twitter users too much.

When a user signs up for Twitter, have them select a certain number of sponsored corporate tweets to follow (for the purpose of this article, we’ll say five). Many users already follow some corporate feeds – I, for one, follow Southwest Airlines (@southwestair).

I would enjoy more corporate feeds on Twitter, and if they are making money from it then that is in the best interest of our community.

What do you think? Feel free to comment, or hit me up on Twitter (@mlenelson).
